About The Doug Flutie Foundation
In 1998, former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie and his wife, Laurie, established the Flutie Foundation. Their experience raising a son on the autism spectrum fueled their dedication to assisting other families in similar situations.
The following year, the Flutie 5K for Autism was launched as a community-based road race in Natick, MA, aimed at supporting the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. Twenty five years later, the event still honors its origins with an annual 1,500-participant race in Natick, even though its scope and influence have grown.
Today, the 5K has expanded to include satellite races across six U.S. states and Europe. This growth allows the event to support autism communities well beyond its Massachusetts roots. The races now partner with local autism support organizations, ensuring that 100% of the funds raised by these groups are reinvested directly into programs and communities where each 5K is held.
